There are several well known experts who warn of statin adverse effects and discuss the overall hype behind statin use.
I recommend the following:
- Dr Duane Graveline, former Apollo astronaut and NASA medical Doctor. His “spacedoc” statins website is chock full of resources. (Sadly, Dr Graveline died on Sept 5, 2016. His website is continuing).
- Cardiologist Dr Barbara Roberts who wrote: “The Truth About Statins” book. See her twitter

Some articles I consider most useful are linked below. I tend to avoid articles written by vitamin sellers or other commercial interests. I look for sound medical research.
- I like this article by the Weston A Price foundation. It is anecdotal and a dozen years old, but it is a nice place to start.
- Here is a thorough summary of statins effects on skeletal muscles by the American Physical Therapy Association in 2010. Show it to any PT person you may see.
- One of many articles on statin induced myopathy (from ScienceDirect, 2015).
- Large scale 2015 “tricare” study linking statins and diabetes summarized here.
- Dr Stephanie Seneff of MIT published a good overall statin mechanism summary in 2011. And one from 2010 about muscle and heart damage
- A 2013 article by Zoe Harcombe about a book by Drs Yoseph & Yoseph subtitled how statin drugs kill you one cell at a time. Read the conclusion for sure.
- One about how statins stimulate atherosclerosis and heart failure from 2015. Shocking.
- Statins and muscle atrophy / mitochondrial damage from Mitochondrial Disease News in 2015
- An eye opening NNT study from 2015 that shows the statins side effects of muscle damage and diabetes are 11 of 100 (way above the benefit rate, for otherwise healthy people).
- Watch for interactions with other drugs: clinically significant drug interactions
